The Agency for Traffic Safety, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Traffic Police Administration, PE "Roads of Serbia", the Automobile Association of Serbia, the company "EKO Serbia" and the Tourist Organization of Serbia, has been organizing a campaign called "Drive Rested" for 8 years in a row. , which is implemented during the summer period and includes various preventive activities aimed at reducing the number of traffic accidents, the number of fatalities and serious injuries.
Media conference on 01.07.2024. held at the "Holiday Inn" hotel in New Belgrade, officially marked the start of this year's "Drive Rested" campaign, the goal of which is to prevent traffic accidents and increase the safety of road users during the summer months.
The campaign which starts on July 10 will last until September 10, 2024 and is intended for all drivers who will be passing through the Republic of Serbia during these months, primarily on longer routes and transit passengers.
The conference "Drive fresh" was opened by acting Director of the Agency for Traffic Safety Branko Stamatović, who thanked all partners for supporting this campaign and for taking care of the safety of road users. "One of the main causes of traffic accidents on the roads during the summer months, which result in serious bodily injury or death, is fatigue. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness among drivers and to show them how dangerous fatigue can be and what consequences it can lead to.
Stamatović added that every day in the summer months between 90 and 100 traffic accidents occur, there are around 40 fatalities and around 1,600 people injured in traffic accidents every month. In July and August 2023 there were 70 traffic accidents with fatalities and 2,557 traffic accidents with injured persons, where 76 people died and 3,832 people were injured, of which 720 suffered serious injuries.
The Executive Director of the Sector for Traffic Management Information Systems of PE "Roads of Serbia" Zoran Pešević pointed out that PE "Roads of Serbia" continuously work on new campaigns aimed at raising the level of awareness of road users on traffic safety.
"In order to increase traffic safety, reduce the number and consequences of traffic accidents, a joint performance and support of the "Drive Rested" campaign was agreed upon by the natural partners on this task: the Traffic Safety Agency, the MIA-Traffic Police Administration and the JP "Roads of Serbia".
Due to the importance of the campaign itself, JP "Roads of Serbia", as the manager of state roads, will inform road users about the slogan and message of the campaign - "Drive rested" via the VMS portal, i.e. changeable traffic signals on the highway. Take a break every 2 hours".
The Roads of Serbia have so far produced and promoted 7 campaigns dedicated to increasing traffic safety.
We continue our joint work and activities to contribute to reducing the number of traffic accidents because even one human life lost is too many!" said Pešović.
Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and Minister of Interior Affairs Ivica Dačić, at the promotion of the campaign "Drive Fresh", pointed out that every activity carried out with the aim of improving traffic safety is of great importance and that every life saved is a great success. Dačić pointed out that fatigue is recognized as a significant factor in the occurrence of traffic accidents and that during the summer season more than 150,000 people cross the Serbian border every day.
Minister Ivica Dačić expressed his gratitude to all participants of this campaign, partners, as well as the media that report on traffic safety and thus positively influence the attitudes and behavior of citizens.
In order to increase traffic safety, reduce the number and consequences of traffic accidents, further joint participation and support of the campaign "Drive Fresh" was agreed upon, of all natural partners in this task, the Agency for Traffic Safety, PE "Roads of Serbia", the Traffic Police Administration, Ministry of Interior and other participants of this campaign.
