The road maintenance and protection department Niš covers 4,543.462 km of I and II category state roads in the territory of Braničevo, Pomoravlje, Bor, Zaječar, Raška, Rasina, Niš, Toplica, Pirot, Jablanica and Pčinja Districts.
It is engaged in preparation of programs for maintenance of I and II category state roads and monitors their implementation.
It is responsible for high-quality road maintenance in accordance with the Law on Public Roads, approved program and funds provided both for the execution of works as prescribed by the program and for the road protection. The Department cooperates with representatives of the inspectorate, local self-governments and MIA, and also takes care of performance of works on road maintenance and protection according to the orders issued by the MIA and inspection bodies. Additional tasks that are being performed by this Department include obtaining certificates on technical documentation acceptance and exploitation permit, participation in bidding procedures for selection of contractors for road maintenance and protection works; proposal of sections for designing, periodical road maintenance.
The Department performs the following activities: road land protection (by determining the ownership and collecting data on occupation of the road land that are submitted to the relevant department of the PE Roads of Serbia), organization and monitoring of activities on geodetic determination of road land strips, control of fulfillment of conditions provided for in the approval for accessing the public road, participation in bidding procedures and in settlement of property-legal relations.
