ROADS OF SERBIA: 140 NO OVERTAKING TRAFFIC SIGNS FOR FREIGHT VEHICLES HAVE BEEN PLACED ON SERBIAN HIGHWAYS

PE "Roads of Serbia" informs the public that in accordance with the traffic and traffic signaling project prohibiting overtaking for freight vehicles on state roads of  I A category, approved by the relevant ministry, the installation of signs prohibiting overtaking for freight vehicles has been carried out.

A total of 140 traffic signs were placed on the following sections:

  • A1 section: Kovilj interchange - Beška interchange (area of the "Beška" bridge over the Danube),
  • A1 section: interchange Stara Pazova - Interchange Požarevac,
  • A1 section: interchange Predejane - Interchange Vladičin Han (Džemin Do and Vrla bridge area),
  • A2 section: interchange Surčin south - interchange Ub,
  • A3 section: Šimanovci interchange - Belgrade interchange,
  • A8 section: interchange Hrtkovci - Šabac (end of the constructed highway)

In order to make traffic on Serbian highways safer, more efficient and more rational, overtaking of other motor vehicles by freight vehicles whose maximum permissible mass exceeds 3.5t is prohibited by placing traffic signs prohibiting overtaking.

In addition to increasing traffic safety, it is also expected to reduce the congestion that occurs during long-term overtaking of two or more freight vehicles.

Analyzing the traffic safety of sections of  IA category state roads, with a high traffic load  (AADT from 20,000 to 46,000 vehicles/day) and a large percentage of freight vehicles in the total AADT (15% - 30%), there is a large number of traffic accidents in which freight vehicles were involved.

The total number of traffic accidents involving freight vehicles on the observed sections in the period from 2016 to 2022 is 805.

PE "Roads of Serbia" appeals to all traffic participants to adjust their speed to road conditions, keep a safe distance and obey traffic signs.
