Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlović, PhD, and the Acting Director of the PE “Roads of Serbia”, Zoran Drobnjak, today visited the works on the motorway rehabilitation on the section Niš-Merošina.
On that occasion, Minister Mihajlović said that every year more than 160 million euros were allocated for maintenance and rehabilitation of roads in Serbia and added that for this year rehabilitation of 191 km of motorway was planned and that, until now, 140 km had been completed.
“Traffic has been reduced, as well as revenues of the PE “Roads of Serbia“, but we have to look after our roads and get ready for the following years. There isn’t one part of Serbia where there aren’t any works. There are large projects being done, all construction sites are open and it is important for our economic growth”, she said.
Mihajlović also said that the results in the construction business were great in the second quarter of this year, and that employment was increased by 10 percent in comparison with the same period last year, mostly on railway and road projects, 14 percent.
The Commissioner of the Niš District, Dragana Sotirovski, pointed out that the rehabilitation of the motorway was important because it leads further south and would give a boost to tourism in that region. “We are looking forward to the construction of the motorway from Niš to Merdare, because it is important for further development of all cities and municipalities in this part of Serbia”, she added.
Director Drobnjak said that at the moment a section in the length of 5.6 km was being rehabilitated and that the works would be completed in aroun ten days. “Also, we will be working on the section from Ražanj to Aleksinac in the length of 23 km, funded by the EBRD loan“, Drobnjak has announced.
