CAMPAIGN “DRIVE FRESH” LAUNCHED AT THE “BELGRADE” TOLL STATION

The Agency for Traffic Safety in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior - Traffic Police Administration, Roads of Serbia, the Automobile Association of Serbia and the Tourist Organization of Serbia is today, July 10, 2026. at the “Belgrade” toll station promoted safe participation in traffic, as part of the “Drive Fresh” campaign.

The campaign is traditionally carried out during the summer months, when the intensity of traffic is the highest, and is aimed at raising awareness of the consequences of driving while tired, as well as encouraging drivers to take regular breaks during their journeys.

Acting Director of the Agency for Traffic Safety, Branko Stamatović, said, after flyers and other symbolic gifts were distributed to drivers, that the “Drive Fresh” campaign aims to further reduce the number of victims on the roads through preventive activities and direct communication with drivers. He pointed out that since the beginning of the year, the number of people killed in traffic accidents has been lower compared to the same period last year. He announced that during the next two months, campaign promoters will be present on highways and regional roads throughout Serbia every weekend, where they will talk to citizens about safe travel and the importance of responsible driving. “It is necessary for drivers to take a break every two hours of driving for at least 15 minutes, in order to remain concentrated and able to continue their journey safely,” Stamatović emphasized.

The Head of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior, Slaviša Lakićević, stated that during the summer months, the highest number of traffic fatalities is recorded and that during the summer tourist season, almost two people on average die on Serbian roads per day. He said that during the summer tourist season, along with preventive activities within the “Drive Fresh” campaign, the police will strengthen controls in order to contribute to reducing the number of traffic accidents and fatalities on the roads.

He also emphasized that the fact that seven people under the age of 30 died in traffic accidents in Serbia in the previous seven days is of particular concern. “This should worry everyone in the traffic safety system and additionally remind us how important compliance with regulations is. Only by responsible behavior can we achieve the goal of Serbia being among the ten safest countries in Europe when it comes to traffic safety,” said Lakićević.

He also appealed to the citizens to go on the road rested, to drive responsibly and respect traffic regulations. “Everything starts from us. Only if we are responsible, concentrated while driving and obey the regulations, we will arrive safely at the desired destination,” emphasized Lakićević.

The head of the Public Relations Department of Roads of Serbia Ljerka Ibrović said that the goal of the campaign “Drive Fresh” is to raise the awareness of drivers about the importance of rest for safe driving, especially during the summer rush hour when the risk of traffic accidents is increased. She reminded that this campaign is jointly implemented on the ground by the Ministry of Interior - Traffic Police Directorate, Traffic Safety Agency and Roads of Serbia, and that representatives of the institutions at the toll stations directly talk to drivers and give them advice on safe traffic.

According to her, one of the most common causes of traffic accidents during the summer months is driver fatigue, which is why the goal of the campaign is to point out to road users, especially young people, the dangers of driving without rest, inappropriate speed and various factors that distract attention while driving.

Ibrović emphasized that since June 30, Putevi Srbije broadcasts the message “Drive Fresh - take a break every two hours” on VMS portals along the motorways in Serbia, in order to remind drivers of the importance of regular breaks during travel.

She pointed out that traffic safety is one of the key priorities of the Roads of Serbia, recalling that nine educational campaigns dedicated to road safety have been implemented so far and announced that two more new campaigns are being prepared and will soon be presented to the public.

Director of the Tourist Organization of Serbia, Marija Labović, said that the organization traditionally participates in the “Drive Fresh” campaign, because safety is one of the most important prerequisites for the development of tourism, especially during the summer season when the largest number of tourists pass through Serbia and stay. “Taking breaks on the way to their final destination, tourists can visit places in Serbia, rest, refresh and enjoy the natural and cultural beauty of our country,” she said.

The Director of the Commercial Affairs Sector in AMAS, Nebojša Mandić, said that before setting off on the road, drivers should plan the route, check the technical condition of the vehicle, inform themselves about detentions at border crossings, as well as possible traffic stops and road works in Serbia and abroad.
