Intensive works are being carried out on the rehabilitation of the bridge over the Danube River on state road I B category number 14, on the section from Smederevo to Kovin.
More than 150 workers in two shifts are engaged on the construction site every day.
Presently, the most demanding part of the work is being carried out - the strengthening of the steel structure in the bridge box.
The biggest part of the work is the anti-corrosion protection, which involves removing the old protection by sandblasting and applying a new protective system. About 120,000 square meters of steel surfaces will be treated, which will ensure long-term protection of the structure and extend the life of the bridge.
At the same time, replacement of the bearing and expansion joints of the bridge, installation of new curbs, installation of new pedestrian and guard-rails, as well as rehabilitation of roadways and footpaths are being carried out.
The metal bridge is 1.4 km long, of which 1.2 km is made up of a steel structure, while 2 x 100 m is made up of concrete approach structure.
In order to ensure the safe and smooth flow of traffic, “Putevi Srbije”, thanks to the cooperation with the contractor and supervisory authorities, expects the works to be completed before the beginning of the winter season, although the agreed deadline for the completion of the works is March 2027.
