Regarding recent claims on certain social networks that a load-bearing column of the Pančevo Bridge has cracked, "Putevi Srbije" informs the public, for the sake of accurate, objective, and precise information, that these statements are entirely incorrect and that the load-bearing column of the Pančevo Bridge has not suffered any cracking.
The Pančevo Bridge is subject to regular and enhanced maintenance measures. A traffic ban for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) with a total weight exceeding 12 tonnes has been in force on the bridge for five years.
This traffic ban was implemented based on a specialist inspection conducted by the "MOSTPROJEKT" design house, a licensed and authorized company for this type of engineering work. The ban was introduced as an emergency measure specified in the inspection findings due to the general condition of the bridge structure, aiming to preserve the safety of traffic participants and ensure structural stability.
Based on this specialist inspection and as part of the emergency measures, temporary support yokes for the access structure on the right bank of the Danube were installed at the points of maximum load impact.
Traffic signage on the Pančevo Bridge was installed in accordance with the approved traffic signaling project and the decision of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.
Despite the posted signage, drivers of heavy goods vehicles exceeding 12 tonnes frequently violate the restrictions. Consequently, the Traffic Police maintain a constant presence to enforce heightened traffic control in the Pančevo Bridge area, as part of an ongoing campaign to increase traffic safety levels in the City of Belgrade.
A new specialist inspection of the Pančevo Bridge, which is conducted every five years, is currently underway. During the inspection of the concrete approach structure on the right bank of the Danube, it was determined that two external prestressing cables require replacement.
The Design for Building Permit (PGD) for the demolition of the old access structures and the construction of new access structures on the right side (from the Bogoslovija interchange to the bridge) is currently nearing completion.
Following the issuance of the building permit by the competent Ministry and the selection of a contractor through the public procurement procedure, the works will commence.
The expected start of the works is spring next year, depending on other infrastructure projects being implemented in the Pančevo Bridge area, specifically the construction of the tunnel under the center of Belgrade (with an entrance portal near Bulevar Despota Stefana Street) and the construction of a new metro station.
