President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, together with members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić, Milorad Dodik and Šefik Džaferović, have laid a cornerstone in Sremska Rača, marking the construction of the first section of the highway Belgrade-Sarajevo (from Sremska Rača to Kuzmin), which will connect Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The event was also attended by the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović, PhD., ministers in the Serbian Government and high officials of Serbia and Turkey, Acting Director of the PE “Roads of Serbia” Zoran Drobnjak, the management of the company “Tasyapi“ and the citizens of Sremska Rača and other places from the region.
President Vučić has pointed out that the commencement of works on that highway is a historical event, important for the entire region since one area is being connected, opened and bound together. The President added that the Balkans need roads and connecting more than anything else, because that is the right way for the people of our region to go forward. “It is a way for us to become greater, more successful, wealthier, to help each other”, President Vučić said.
President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that it was a historical moment for Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey, that the cooperation should be improved by a larger number of joint projects, pointing out that the bridge across the Sava whose foundation has been laid – was the bridge of friendship because it holds a special value for the entire region. President Erdogan stated that he had great expectations from the Turkish company “Tasyapi” working on the road construction, regarding the finalization of the project in the shortest term possible and in the best possible manner.
Highway Belgrade-Sarajevo is the first highway directly connecting Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it is of great importance for the connecting in the region. The commercial contract for the elaboration of detailed regulation plans, designing and construction of sections was signed at the end of last year, and the document was signed by the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlović, Acting Director of “Roads of Serbia”Zoran Drobnjak and the President of the Turkish company “Tasyapi” Emrullah Turanli.
