FINAL CONFERENCE ON IPA CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION OF SERBIA AND HUNGARY

PE “Roads of Serbia” informs the public that tomorrow, 25th January 2023, a final conference will be held at the premises of the PE “Urban and Spatial Planning Institute of Vojvodina” in Novi Sad, where the results of the project will be presented.

“Development of cross-border Santovo – Bački Breg with the necessary customs office and facilities in the function of freight traffic”

The project has been financed from the European Union Interreg IPA funds, and the partners in the projects are the PE “Roads of Serbia”, the Hungarian National Infrastructure Development Corporation (NIF Zrt.), and the PE “Urban and Spatial Planning Institute of Vojvodina".

Thanks to the European Union programs, an array of the Interreg IPA cross-border Hungary – Serbia cooperation projects has been successfully implemented. They are immediately directed toward the improvement of transport infrastructure, stimulation of cross-border companies and economic relations, establishment of new business opportunities, exchange of experiences and good practice examples in the domain of culture, tourism and education.

The opening conference was held on 17th December 2021 in Novi Sad, while on 23rd June 2022, at the PE “Roads of Serbia” premises in Belgrade, a conference was held where the project progress was presented.

The objective of the project is the development of the border crossing Santovo-Bački Breg for all types of freight traffic without limitations, since, at the moment, traffic is allowed only for passenger and cargo vehicles up to 3.5 tons.

PE “Roads of Serbia” has, within this project, developed the necessary planning documentation, the conceptual solution, the concept design and the building permit design. The documentation includes various planning documents, design and technical documentation and preliminary studies, representing the precondition for the widening of the border crossing Santovo-Bački Breg for freight traffic, i.e., for the construction of expanded capacities of this crossing.

It is important to emphasize that the opening of the border crossing Santovo – Bački Breg for freight traffic will, to a great extent, relieve the existing border crossings between Hungary and Serbia, reduce congestion, open new possibilities for the development of economic and all other connections between the two countries.

The border crossing will be directly connected to the new route connecting the border crossings Bački Breg and Nakovo, via Sombor, Kula, Vrbas, Bečej, Novi Bečej and Kikinda, thus forming an expressway which will, to a great extent, speed up the transport of goods and people in the entire region.
