Natural Allies for Road Safety Area, Meeting of Road Traffic Safety Agency and PE “Roads of Serbia“

On 14th February 2023, at the Palace of Serbia, a meeting was held between the PE “Roads of Serbia” and the Road Traffic Safety Agency, aiming to improve the cooperation of the two institutions and exchange road safety data more efficiently in the future.

On behalf of the PE “Roads of Serbia”, the meeting was attended by the Executive Director of the Sector for Traffic Management Information Systems, Mr. Zoran Pešović, with the representatives from his sector and with the representatives of the Sector for Strategy, Designing and Development. On behalf of the Road Traffic Safety Agency, the Acting Director, Mr. Branko Stamatović, and the Sector for Prevention, Education and Local Administration representatives attended the meeting.

The meeting topics were the improvement of cooperation in the area of road safety, with a particular emphasis on strengthening operational capacities and institutional collaboration, improvement of communication, and joint usage of data sets on road safety, which are collected, updated and used. Also, possibilities for collaboration in the area of preemptive and promotional activities and work on improving road safety through joint campaigns were discussed, as well as through joint coordination and communication when it comes to cooperation with the local administration.

“We are natural allies for the road safety area. As the state road network managers, we have a high level of responsibility for this type of work and we have a high level of obligation toward the traffic participants traveling on our roads and, together with the Road Traffic Safety Agency and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, we form a triangle which is the most liable and responsible for road safety”, Zoran Pešović said.

The director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency has expressed pleasure regarding the meeting and the future collaboration and invited the representatives of both institutions to exchange suggestions and act concretely.

“I hope that the meetings will become regular, the data will be updated and exchanged and the communication will be better for the benefit of all interested parties in the area of road safety,” Branko Stamatović said.

In the forthcoming period, operational activities will commence to direct future collaboration and to realize the steps toward an efficient exchange of data and experiences, aiming for a more significant joint action and reduced fatalities on Serbian roads.
