The promotion of the campaign to increase traffic safety "Make sure you are road-ready for the winter”, with the goal of showing drivers the importance of using winter equipment and preventive actions in traffic, was held on December 14, 2023 in the Government of the Republic of Serbia building.
The campaign is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Interior of Serbia - Traffic Police Directorate, Road Traffic Safety Agency, PE "Roads of Serbia” Auto-Moto Association of Serbia, Tourist Organization of Serbia and the company "EKO Serbia".
Head of Traffic Police Administration Slaviša Lakićević addressed the media, as well as the Director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency Branko Stamatović, Director of the Sector for Commercial Affairs AMAS Nebojša Mandić, Director of the Tourism Organization of Serbia Marija Labović, Head of the Department for Traffic and Traffic Signage of the Sector for Maintenance of I and II Category State Roads of PE "Roads of Serbia" Nebojša Čubrilo and Commercial Director of "Eko Serbia" Nataša Vukšić.
The Head of the Traffic Police Administration, Slaviša Lakićević, emphasized that the campaign is significant for increasing traffic safety and that a multi-lingual flyer with recommendations for behavior in winter traffic has been prepared, which will be distributed at all border crossings and toll-stations. A special emphasis of this campaign is aimed at pedestrians, since every fourth person of fatalities in traffic is a pedestrian, Lakićević pointed out.
Acting Director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency, Branko Stamatović, pointed out that preventive activities are essential for the Agency, which must contribute to achieving the goals of Serbia’s national strategy on traffic safety, whose slogan is "On the road to zero" fatalities in traffic accidents. "Winter tires are mandatory from November 1st in all places where snow and ice occur. We appeal to all citizens who have not replaced their tires to do so as soon as possible", emphasized Stamatović.
Nebojša Čubrilo from PE "Roads of Serbia" pointed out that our company installed all necessary traffic signs on the road network in the Republic of Serbia before the start of winter road maintenance, that all companies that maintain roads work based on the Winter Service Plan, that the emphasis is on preventive action, before the appearance of glaze and ice on the roadway, as well as that PE "Roads of Serbia" and all road companies that maintain roads are ready for winter service, which they have been conducting for years.
The director of the Commercial affairs sector of AMAS, Nebojša Mandić said that AMAS informs the public daily about the condition of roads and border crossings, with a special focus on approaches to winter tourist centers.
Director of the Tourist Organization of Serbia, Marija Labović emphasized that tourists make up a large percentage of road users, that it is extremely important to draw their attention to the importance of traffic safety, and also that this year the number of domestic and foreign tourists is equal.
